Chapter 7: My options for the future

So I'm back at college and so far it has been interesting; there's been a change to how BTEC works. I am under more pressure than ever to hand assignments in on time, I personally think that it is better as it gives me more motivation to do the work to be able to hand it in on time. I have also been given the option between two extra NCFE courses to do as a part of my Travel and Tourism. I was given the choice between Travel Services (which is travel agency and tour operator based training) and Event Management. Obviously I have decided to go with the event management route as this would be the most beneficial to my job. I love the Event Management course although I feel as though I know most of what is being taught already but it will be great to get an official qualification out of it.

This week I have also been discussing with Emma at West Country Wedding Planner my options for when I finish college. We talked about the possibilities of doing a Marketing Apprenticeship, but I had a unit in marketing on my course and it is not a subject that I would say that I particularly like, so we are looking at other potential routes. My Dad has found an NCFE level 4 course on Event Management and Wedding Planning on-line, which doesn't require going in to a college to learn, so you can do all of it in your own home in your own time, plus it is accredited which is great for my CV. This does costs around £600 but as I am not going to University, I am able to use my education fund to go towards it which has been saved up for me from my family members. This is the option that I am most seriously considering at the moment.

Most recently, I have looked at doing an apprenticeship as well as doing the NCFE level 4 course, I am looking at doing the apprenticeship in Leisure, Travel and Tourism to follow on from the college course that I am doing at the moment. I figured that this would help with the destination weddings and honeymoons aspect of the job and is the next step up from what I am doing currently.

I am feeling increasingly excited towards my future every day that I work at West Country Wedding Planner and I will be continuing to update you, my loyal readers, on my journey of becoming a Wedding Planner,
With love,
The Aspiring Wedding Planner
