Chapter 12: What I have learnt about budgeting

Hello again readers,

This week I have learnt some things about budgeting from the newsletter that Emma has written this week. The newsletter has some really good points which I think should be extended to you so that you can benefit from them too!

Food:

Feeding guests too soon or too late can make a huge impact on your wedding budget. You want to ensure that you don't spend more than is needed or too little, leaving you with either not enough or not good quality. There are three options to ensure that you have the perfect combination these include:

1. By starting the wedding day earlier between the times 10:30/11am, people will then be feeling ready to eat at around 2pm. This could be followed by a cocktail hour to keep guests topped up and they can snack as they please. By 7pm, your guests will probably be feeling ready to eat again.

2. By starting the wedding day later from 2pm, you could get away with having just one meal at 5pm finishing at 7pm. Then you always have the option of having snacky foods such as bacon butties or Cornish pasties at 9pm.

3. The other option is having all food as an all day buffet where your guests can graze for as long as they would like as much as they like on things such as canapés and then perhaps afternoon tea in the middle of the afternoon.

Photography:

Don't cut your costs by getting a cheap photographer! Even if you have a family member or friend who is a photographer because if they do something tragically wrong (like forget to put the film in) then would you be able to get on with them still? Also it would mean that they wouldn't be able to have a good time as much as they could because they would be working not enjoying.

When you choose your wedding photographer, you have to meet with them and know whether you get on with them or not, you are going to spend a lot of your day around this person! Also your photographer has to be someone whose work you love, if you don't like their technique then the chances are that if you pick them then you won't get the style that you are looking for.

Always remember that the photographer are one of the most important factors to include in a wedding, they are the ones who document the day and captures the special moments.

Decorations:

Don't overspend on your venue only to realise that you have no money left for the decorations, making it pretty is what people are going to be looking at, to the guests it doesn't matter whether your wedding is in a castle or a registry office but they will notice whether it is decorated well or not. To make your day a success, we recommend that couples spend 38% of their total wedding budget on their wedding ceremony venue, wedding reception venue, food and drink.

Hair and Beauty:

After all you have spent on making your wedding day perfect, you mustn't forget about pampering yourself for the big day. You'll need a bit of make-up to help you to look and feel your best. It doesn't matter whether you use a friend or a professional for this part as long as they understand what you are asking for. To help them to do this, try and find a picture of what you are looking for and give it to them when you go to have your trials done. Trials are very important and should not be overlooked! This is how you know that what you have chosen is right for you, after having it done in the trials, you may decide that you don't like the style after all which is better finding this out in a trial rather than the big day.

Entertainment:

If you have nothing to do on your big day then you can guarantee that your guests will become bored. There are lots of points in a wedding where the guests will need to wait around for the next part to start. There is so much choice for you to choose from for your guests to be a part of and you can even find things that match a theme.

I hope that these hints and tips have helped you in organising your big day, I look forward to writing my next blog post which will be a questions and answers post so if you have any please put these in the comments below or find me on my Facebook page at: https://www.facebook.com/weddingplannerjourney?ref=hl
